Manufacturing

Manufacturing

Most outdoor sports businesses, especially mountain sports, have invested consistently in textile R&D to enhance the properties of various materials in their products including breathability, technical performance, weight and resistance, while keeping their environmental impact to a bare minimum. Unfortunately, as Tacante founder Morgane Carcaillet discovered to her complete dismay, this was not true of horse-riding sports.

Tacante champions innovation in all we do. We launched our first product, a high performance, sustainable saddle pad in July 2015 – a result of months intense R&D in collaboration with mountain textile R&D specialists, followed by field trials with professional riders. We have pioneered the use of intelligent textiles developed for outdoor activities like trekking, rock climbing and hiking, to horse riding equipment, while ensuring it meets our rigorous environmental specifications to limit our environmental footprint.

While our product range continues to grow, we have remained steadfast in our innovation ideology that puts R&D and stringent eco-design at the heart of all we do. Our product range includes horse ear nets, leg wraps and under bandages, a new saddle pad entirely 3D-knitted, virgin wool riding jackets, and many more. STARTING POINT: ECO-DESIGN

TACANTE ECO DESIGN PROCESS

When we develop a new product, we focus on its lifecycle to consider the impact it will have on the environment during the course of its life. We arbitrate between different materials thoughtfully choosing only those with the smallest environmental impact. We then select the ideal manufacturing technique and location, and finally estimate the end of life of our products.

RAW MATERIALS FROM EUROPE WITH LIMITED ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT

During R&D we thoughtfully select materials which match at the very minimum our stringent demands in terms of environmental impact – recycled materials when they exist, materials resistant to usage and wash, certified and traceable, recyclable as much as possible.

A DELIBERATE CHOICE TO MANUFACTURE IN FRANCE

Our products are designed, manufactured, and assembled in France. They are made with French or European textiles with a limited environmental impact and no health risk for the rider or the horse.

We prioritise manufacturing processes with none or little production waste, and we deliberately choose a short production chain to limit our carbon footprint.

DESIGNED TO LAST: REPAIR AND MAINTAIN

Our products can be mended. We continuously improve our offer of services to guide and help you keep your Tacante equipment for as long as possible.

AND FINALLY RECYCLE

Once we have explored all the ways to preserve Tacante products that have reached the end of their life cycles, only then do we consider recycling. While our products are mostly recyclable, it is important to manage expectations when confronted with the harsh reality of textile recycling today. A lot of progress remains to be made in this area to find solutions that truly add value for the environment.
