Sultane des Ibis a small 1.60m chestnut mare, by Quidam de Revel and Orlane des Ibis by Elan de la Cour was born in 2006 at Mr and Mrs Djindjian’s, of the Ibis breeding farm at Le Vesinet in the Yvelines.
Sultane started under François-Xavier Boudant’s saddle, with whom she competed in the Criterium and 6YO Young Horse Championships. She then moved on to work with Pénélope Leprévost, Lucie Saliba, and more recently she spent time with Tony Hanquinquant. At the end of 2017 Geneviève Mégret, Sultane’s owner, entrusted her with Félicie Bertrand her current rider.
Tacante had the honour of meeting the breathtaking Sultane, who graciously answered our questions through her rider Félicie Bertrand!
Where does your name come from?
Well there! I haven’t got the slightest idea. But it was premonitory as I am a true princess!
Where do you live? Can you describe your stables?
I live at the Haras de Clarbec which is 5mn away from Pont l’Evêque in Normandy. It is a beautiful place with amazing paddocks where I get to spend a lot of time – whole mornings even!
How do you get on with your stable mates?
I don’t pay any attention to my neighbours when I am indoors at home. However, when I am away competing I need to feel that my BFF Vahine is close by. As soon as she walks away, I get anxious and I start neighing!
What do you like most about your rider?
Félicie gives me free rein, and I love that!
What are your best attributes?
I have so many I can’t choose! I’d say that I owe my records to my bravery, my determination and that I always want to do well!
What is the worst mischief you got into?
When I’m at home I don’t like to work! I find it sooooo boring!
Mischief you said? I don’t even know what that means! Remember, I am a princess! Anyhow, whatever I do I am immediately forgiven!
Do you have passing fancies?
I never have passing fancies! I like to get cuddles when I am in my stall, but the right dose! When I’ve had enough, I let it know! When I say stop, I mean stop!
What is your favourite colour?
Which dream would you like to come true in your life?
For Félicie to ride me for much much longer!
What is your favourite activity?
I have 2 favourite activities: compete and spend time in the paddock! I’m entitled to a good time after so much effort! Aren’t I?
What makes you feel the happiest?
Compete, spend time in the paddock and all the sweets and little treats I am given all day long! But I stay slim
What do you dislike most in the world?
To be disturbed when I want to be left alone!
What has been your best memory?
Our victory with Félicie in the Bordeaux Land Rover Grand Prix in 2019!
Which frame of mind are you in at the moment?
I am not competing much at the moment so I am getting impatient! I am looking forward to stepping back in competition arenas!
Do you have a life motto you would like to share with us?
“Never disappoint!”
How can we keep up to date with your news?
That’s easy, on Ecurie Félicie Bertrand Facebook page, and also on Haras de Clarbec Facebook page.
